The Mammals of Khobaib Al Reem Wildlife Reserve Khobaib Al Reem Wildlife Reserve can genuinely be considered a great success story. From a small population of less than 50 animals in the early 1990s, the population has risen to nearly a thousand animals, mainly from captive breedings as well as introduction of new species in our collection.
Successful breeding from the Khobaib Al Reem Wildlife Reserve includes following: the Arabian Gazelle (Gazelle subgutturosa) with a present count of 207, Plains Zebra (Equus burchelli) with 40 individuals, Thompson’s Gazelle (Gazella thomsonii ) totaling to 94, Eland (Taurotragus oryx) at 39 individuals, 191 Axis Deer (Axis axis), 188 Blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra), 17 Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros), 23 Blue Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus), and 16 Arabian Oryx (Oryx leucoryx).
Other mammals included in the collection are: Black Wildebeest (Connochaetes gnou), Javan Gibbon (Hylobates moloch), Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis), Striped Hyena (Hyaena hyaena), Impala (Aepyceros melampus), Nile Lechwe (Kobus megaceros), Nyala (Tragelaphus angasii) and Blesbok (Damaliscus dorcas).
