Man-made Lakes
Situated with the Khobaib Al Reem Wildlife Reserve are two man-made lakes. These two lakes are highlights to the overall beauty of the entire reserve. But that said, they provide more than just an attractive feature.

The lakes are well vegetated both underwater and around their shorelines providing numerous habitats for a variety of animals. Although the large-hoofed animals make some of the large stands of lakeside reed beds, it is the thousands of migrating birds that benefit the most from these lakes. The reserve provides a vital resting point for many birds passing through the area each year. Here they can rest, drink or feed on the fish found in the lakes before continuing on with their long journey.

Description:
The largest of the lakes has a size approximately 70,000 square meters and a depth of 10 meters. Included in its center is an island which houses a troop of breeding Hamadyras Baboons, a primate species native to Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the Horn of Africa.

The smaller lake, with a surface of 45,000sqm also boasts a small island on which a large group of birds called Cattle Egrets nest each year along with other species of water birds. Also in this lake is a structure housing a pair of rare and endangered species known as Javan Gibbons. These exotic primates can be seen swinging from the ropes and branches of their exhibit in the morning and the late afternoon.

Surrounding much of this smaller lake is an area of grass, which is one of the best areas in the reserve to view the larger species of animals maintained here. During the late afternoon many of the animals come down to not only drink from the lake, but also to graze on the tender grass surrounding it.
